Waunakee approves contract with Architecture and Planning for Water Wheel Park study

The Village of Waunakee approved a contract with Architecture and Planning to provide planning services for the Water Wheel Park project.
Village staff said the village began this planning effort after acquiring a 13‑acre parcel along Waterwheel Drive and issued a request for proposals. "We submitted, sent out an RFP for planning services, to help the park committee and the village board decide what we would make of that 13 acre property," said Sue (staff member). Nine firms responded; staff shortlisted three and conducted interviews before recommending Architecture and Planning.
Staff told trustees that $20,000 was budgeted for this phase and Architecture and Planning's proposed fee is $14,460. The presentation noted additional wetland delineation will be required and that none of the three finalists could perform that wetland work in‑house, so the village expects to return with a separate contract or scope for delineation.
Park committee members present said the committee unanimously recommended the firm. After brief trustee questions — several trustees had no questions — a trustee moved to approve the contract, the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said the planning work will inform future decisions about how the village and park committee use the site and that any subsequent construction or wetland work will follow applicable permitting and review processes.
