Developer outlines proposed data center site near Alice fairgrounds

Summary
A land-and-utility manager for Satoki Mining presented a preliminary plan to build a modular data center near the Alice fairgrounds, citing a potential AEP interconnection of 75–150 megawatts and commitment to curtailment under ERCOT directions.
Valerie Riddell, a land-and-utility manager for Satoki Mining, told the Alice City Council she and her company are in preliminary talks to site a data center across from the fairgrounds and adjacent to a substation.
Riddell said Satoki — a company founded in Oklahoma with primary operations in Texas — plans modular, container-style or warehouse data-center buildings and prefers air cooling to conserve local water resources. “We are by no means a hyper scaler,” Riddell said, “but our goal in Alice was to originate a site that could be beneficial to the community but also not disrupt what the community stands to do.”
The presenter said preliminary work with the utility AEP produced an interconnection estimate of between 75 and 150 megawatts at that location. She said Satoki intends to follow ERCOT curtailment directives and would curtail operations during emergencies, noting the company “will curtail in times of disaster, emergency or when ERCOT tells us to shut down.” Riddell also said the firm generally owns and operates its sites rather than turning them over to third-party operators.
Riddell said the company has shared an economic development packet with city staff members Michael Esparza and Ody and requested the council be aware of the project as Satoki approaches ERCOT and large-load stakeholders for formal interconnection approval. She offered to answer questions and to follow up on engineering questions after consulting company engineers.
The presentation was listed as informational only; council did not take action on the item during the meeting.
