The Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission on June 18 approved the consent agenda, which included a municipal sign-code amendment and the June 4 meeting minutes.
The consent agenda passed after a motion and second; Chair Heumann called for the vote and commissioners voiced their approval, and the motion carried. Commissioner Quinn said for the record they would support the sign-code item but urged the council to reconsider state law that, in Quinn’s view, allows downtown areas to be free of signs.
“For for the for the record, I'll be supporting the item, on the sign code, but I also like counsel to reconsider the fact that state statute allows you to, not have signs in the downtown area,” Commissioner Quinn said. “Actually, downtown area by the mall for tourism, because they just clutter up our downtown. We spent millions of dollars on making sure our downtown is beautified, and yet, it the council has decided again not to use state statute to eliminate those, and I think it's more of a self fulfilling situation versus what's right for our citizens. So I just wanna go on the record for that.”
Chair Heumann noted that Commissioner Gallo was excused because she was out of town volunteering. During announcements, David, a planning staff member, told the commission that there were no cases scheduled for either of the two July meetings and that both meetings would likely be canceled.
“Currently, we do not have any cases, tracking to either of the July meetings. So more than likely, we'll be canceling the both of the July meetings,” David said.
No separate action items were discussed at the June 18 meeting beyond the consent agenda. The record shows the area-plan update referenced on the agenda had been withdrawn prior to the meeting and therefore was not considered.
Meeting routine items included roll call and the pledge of allegiance. Commissioner responses and an excusal for Commissioner Gallo were recorded during roll call.
