County approves safety redesign and $88,209.93 change order to convert Locust Grove/Jackson intersection to all‑way stop

Spalding County approved a safety redesign for the intersection of Locust Grove Road and Jackson Road on June 16, endorsing a plan to realign the southbound Locust Grove approach into a single lane and convert the intersection to an all‑way stop.
County staff said engineers considered several alternatives and recommended Alternative 2, which realigns the approach to reduce high‑speed angle crashes, manage conflict points and moderate vehicle speeds. The plan includes improved intersection lighting, reflective pavement markings, rumble strips, advanced‑warning signage and potential speed feedback signs; access management recommendations for a nearby gas station were also included. ER Snell provided a bid of $88,209.93, and staff said funds are available from the FY 2025 road improvement fund (distinct from T Sploss).
Staff recommended approval of the redesign and construction, and the board approved the change order by a 3–0 voice vote. Staff said the all‑way stop will maintain acceptable levels of service for projected traffic through 2046 under capacity analysis at lower volumes.
