The Renton City Council on Tuesday approved three Transportation Committee items: a $117,000 change order for the Rainier Avenue South Corridor Improvements Phase 4 project, an airport lease addendum adjusting annual revenue, and a resolution authorizing a full weekend closure in July to finish a roadway lowering and construct a roundabout.
The Transportation Aviation Committee recommended concurrence with staff to approve Change Order No. 41 to contract 22163 with Pavetta Brothers Construction Incorporated in the amount of $117,000 for the Rainier Avenue South Corridor Improvements Phase 4 project. The council moved, seconded and concurred with the committee report; staff noted the change order does not add working days to the project.
Council also authorized execution of Addendum 1025 to Lease Agreement 99002 with 540 Rent and Hangar LLC (as referenced in the meeting record), which adjusts the annual lease revenue to $58,731.75 plus leasehold excise tax and updates insurance and the lessor’s address.
Finally, the council adopted Resolution No. 4557 (as read on the record) authorizing the temporary full-weekend closure of the intersection of Northeast 40th Street and Lake Washington Boulevard Northeast, east of I-405, to occur between July 18 and July 21, 2025. The work described on the record includes lowering Northeast 40th Street east of I-405 to its final grade and constructing a roundabout at the intersection of NE 40th Street, Lake Washington Boulevard NE and the northbound I-405 on- and off-ramps.
All three committee recommendations were moved, seconded and approved by the council during the meeting; no opposing votes were recorded on the record. The council did not record additional amendments or further direction to staff during discussion beyond the note that the Rainier Avenue change order would not add working days to the project.
Construction staging and traffic-control details for the weekend closure were not specified in the meeting record; the city’s transportation staff will publish official notices and detour information to affected motorists and businesses prior to the closure.
