Council approves $80,700 increase to Main and Lilac sidewalk project after higher bids

The Milford City Council approved raising the city's contribution to the Ohio Department of Transportation-led Main and Lilac sidewalk improvement project after the lowest construction bid came in roughly 12–13% above the state estimate.
City staff said the increased local share totals $80,700, bringing the city’s match to an amount not to exceed $665,000. The project is funded as a 50% match arrangement, with an OKI grant for up to 50% of eligible costs; staff told council the city had budgeted $750,000 for the work and that the current total remains under that budgeted amount.
Council Member Price moved to amend the ordinance amount to reflect the bid increase; the motion passed by roll call with recorded affirmative votes from Council Members Velardo, Price, Thompson, Cooper and Chamberlain.
City staff and council described the project as an opportunity to improve safety and aesthetics at the five‑points intersection and nearby walkways and noted that additional funds could be reserved for enhancement elements such as stamped brick crosswalks once the base work is underway.
Construction will proceed once necessary LPA/ODOT documentation is executed and the city provides the agreed contribution; staff said the city expects to start work following contract award and normal ODOT processes.
