Summary
The council adopted a resolution vacating a drainage and utility easement over Outlot I in Mississippi Landing First Addition so the developer can record a new plat for phase 2.
The Cottage Grove City Council adopted a resolution to vacate a drainage and utility easement over Outlot I in Mississippi Landing First Addition to allow the developer to record the plat for the next phase.
Community Development Director Emily Schmitz explained that easements are often platted to preserve access for utilities or stormwater prior to future phases; because the developer received approval for Mississippi Landing Phase 2, the drainage and utility easement over Outlot I is no longer needed for access and must be vacated so the lots can be recorded. Schmitz said the first addition was approved by the council on May 1, 2024, and the second addition was approved April 2, 2025.
No members of the public spoke during the hearing. Council Member Claussen moved to adopt Resolution 2025-088 rescinding and releasing the specified easements; Council Member Thidi seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Staff said the vacation simply allows the developer to record platted lots for the project and did not identify additional conditions or public comments at the hearing.
