Superintendent reports summer programs, summer meal pickup site and two staff resignations

Superintendent Gleeson briefed the RSU 06 / MSAD 06 Board of Directors on several summer items: a returning Pathfinders seasonal program with an overnight component, a summer meals pickup site in Standish, and two staff resignations.
Gleeson said the Pathfinders group out of the middle school will run a brief summer program that includes an overnight excursion. "They're going to have, I forget how many kids, a dozen 15 kids do a camping experience for a couple of afternoons or mornings in the summer and they're going to culminate with a very short trip," Superintendent Gleeson said; the superintendent said he had approved the overnight and that staff will supervise the students.
On meals, Gleeson said Bonny Eagle High School in Standish was selected as a district summer meals site and that meal service will be non-congregate: families must sign up and pick up meals Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8 and 10 a.m. The superintendent asked staff to post the flyer and to re-send sign-up information to families.
On staffing, Gleeson reported two resignations: Katie Hoagland, the visual-arts teacher at Steep Falls Elementary and the Buxton Center, will resign at the end of the 2024–25 school year; and Mitzi Smith, the assistant director of transportation, will resign at the end of this month to accept a transportation director position in another district. Gleeson described both as valued employees and said the district will miss them.
Board members did not ask follow-up questions during the superintendent's report. The superintendent asked families to return any outstanding district devices and chargers before the summer.
