Event staff gave the council an overview of this summer's and seasonal events, reporting vendor interest, sponsorships and program plans for 2025.
Britney and Brandon, city event staff, said 13 Nights on the River had completed two successful nights and would return to the park on the following Thursday with live music and vendors. Britney said sponsorships helped underwrite the series and that alcohol sales were producing promising revenue. "We were able to secure enough donations in food to serve about a thousand people" for the upcoming Community Day, she said, describing food partners and Main Street volunteers who will assist with serving.
Staff previewed the July 4 program, with a fireworks display scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. from a barge on the river and a tailgating option ($25 per vehicle) available by online reservation. Event plans include a multi-act band lineup and expanded family activities in City Hall parking and plaza areas; staff presented two site-plan options and said public-works input was under review.
Spirit of Halloweentown dates were announced: weekends beginning Sept. 27 through Oct. 30 and including Oct. 31 (a Friday). Staff said the haunted house and gift shop are being renovated, merchandise is being refreshed, and they plan added family-friendly activities and improved inclusion of Uptown and Holton District businesses. Christmas in the Plaza is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 13, with confirmed participation in the Christmas Ships and plans for expanded lighting and community performances.
Councilors asked staff to consider broader Holton District participation in holiday lighting and suggested a hop-on, hop-off trolley to help connect Uptown and Downtown during large events. Staff said they are coordinating with the Chamber, Main Street and other partners for expanded holiday programming and to improve Uptown-Holton inclusion. No formal actions were taken; staff will continue event implementation and report back on logistics and volunteer coordination.
