The Limestone County Commission placed several routine contracts and grants on the work session agenda and received no objections. The commission approved a $75,000 grant from the Alabama Historical Commission to the Limestone County Department of History and Archives; the chair said the grant requires no local match.
The commission also approved a service contract with RapiScan for maintenance of the courthouse RapiScan machine in the amount of $5,139, retroactive to June 1, 2025; the chair described it as an annual renewal of existing maintenance coverage.
The commission approved an agreement to purchase additional P25 radio tower equipment from Motorola Solutions off the state bid list for a third tower location. County Engineer Mark Massey explained the equipment "will go on a tower for a third tower location" and said the intended site is off Batch Road; he said the additional tower location is intended to fill coverage gaps on the east side of the county. A commissioner asked for clarification, and Massey described maps he had previously shared showing the proposed location to address dead spots.
The commission also discussed and approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to host municipal elections for cities that request county assistance; the chair said the MOU is subject to review and approval by county staff (Drew). The chair read a claims total aloud during the meeting as "3,000,000, $91,282.08," which corresponds to $3,091,282.08 in claims to be paid as presented on the agenda.
Why it matters: The historical grant provides funding for county archives without a local match; the RapiScan maintenance contract continues courthouse security operations; and the Motorola purchase is part of an ongoing project to expand public‑safety radio coverage.
