The RSU 10 School Board unanimously approved a tentative collective bargaining agreement with the district’s teachers at its June 16 meeting.
Deb (the superintendent) told the board the agreement included two memoranda of understanding. One memorandum creates a jointly staffed committee to study and propose short‑ and long‑term solutions for teacher planning time and to recommend steps the district can take to reduce interruptions to scheduled planning. The second memorandum corrects an identified error in the 2027–2028 salary scale; Deb said that correction has no financial impact on the current budget.
Chad Cullerton, who said he participated in negotiations, told the board that planning time is legally a permissible subject of bargaining and explained the negotiators wanted a combined short‑ and long‑term process to address interruptions to scheduling. Board members asked that two board representatives sit on the planning‑time committee; Kristen Chapman asked to be one of the two representatives. The memorandum specifies the committee’s purpose but does not prescribe final remedies; the committee is a study and recommendation body.
The board voted to approve the tentative agreement and the accompanying memoranda; Deb said the contract modifications and the planning‑time committee will be implemented and brought back to the board for review as committee work proceeds.
