Teachers, union highlight student achievements, scholarships and classroom projects

During public comment the Lacey Township Education Association and classroom teachers highlighted student and staff accomplishments from the past school year.
Jen Bentley, identified as LTA vice president and a teacher, recounted senior events and said over $430,000 in scholarships was awarded at scholarship night; the LTA awarded $2,000 in scholarships and the first Julie Bassante Memorial Scholarship of $1,700. “Please know that the entire LTA is proud of all of you and wish you the very best of luck in the next chapter of your life,” Bentley said in remarks celebrating the class of 2025.
First-grade teachers Jennifer Virge, Vanessa Entile and Katie Bridal described a project in which three first-grade classes became published authors through Student Treasures; one student wrote in braille. The teachers described publishing parties and celebratory school events.
Speakers also described school fundraisers and community connections: Forkett River School raised $25,500 for the Kids Heart Challenge and distributed books to students through a district book program. Teachers and board members noted county- and program-level awards for math and other extracurricular accomplishments.
Those reports were delivered as public comment and board members later offered congratulations during board-member remarks.
