Round Lake Area Board recognizes local Eagle Scouts for community projects
Summary
The board honored a group of Eagle Scouts from local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops who completed benches, a patio, flag-display project, tree work and other community-benefitting projects at schools, churches, the park district and veterans groups.
Missus Holtman presented special recognition to a group of Eagle Scouts at the Round Lake Area Board of Education meeting on June 16.
Holtman introduced scoutmasters and said the area has two active troops: Troop 275 (boys) and Troop 2019 (girls). She described local projects the scouts completed for schools, park districts, churches and veterans groups and invited the scouts to introduce themselves.
Sarah Valdivia, from Troop 2019, said, “For my project, I did a gaga ball pit at the park district... they mainly wanted it for their summer camp as they have in the summer for the Park District. But it's also open to the community.” Giovanni Martinez said his Eagle project “was making a patio for the bridge... by the Lake Region Bible Church on Washington and Sierra Lake” to give kids a place to gather. Carlos Ochoa described an American-flag display near a veterans memorial and Ruben Martinez described removing seven rotten trees and planting two new ones at Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Other scouts described benches and organizational work for Avon Township and the VFW archives in Antioch.
The board and superintendent thanked the scouts and their leaders for the volunteer projects and noted the work supported schools and community organizations. Several students who completed projects at Beach Elementary and other local sites were singled out in remarks from district leaders.
