The Scituate School Committee voted June 16 to approve a school‑sponsored trip to Walt Disney World for a high‑school performing ensemble, scheduled for April 30–May 4, 2026.
A trip organizer told the committee the district has run the performance trip biannually for years and said this vendor provides the best pricing; travel arrangements include charter flights and secured local bus transportation while at the resort. "Expected cost probably somewhere between $1,600 and $1,800," the trip organizer said, adding that travel insurance is mandatory for participants and that chaperone ratios typically range from 1:8 to 1:10.
The presenter said the trip includes an audition or performance submission process required by the event operator and that supervision, medical staff and academic eligibility checks have been standard practice in prior years. The organizer said the district typically aims to minimize missed school days; this itinerary requires students to miss two school days (Friday and Monday).
A committee member moved to approve the trip as presented; the motion passed by voice vote. The committee did not record a roll‑call tally in the meeting transcript. The organizer said the district will finalize vendor details, confirm participant and chaperone lists and require the mandatory travel insurance in program materials.
