The Mountain View—Los Altos Union High School District Board of Trustees on June 16 approved the consolidated calendar after trustees pulled several items for discussion and clarification. Pulled items included: a transportation service for Career Technical Education (CTE) students, design services for replacing synthetic turf and resurfacing tracks, and contracted translation services used in special education and IEP processes.
Trustees asked staff for more context on how individual contracts fit into district services. Trustee Catherine said the board would benefit from a matrix showing how small, student-specific contracts for special education fit together; staff agreed to provide that overview.
Transportation: The board approved a contract to maintain transportation between Freestyle and Los Altos for CTE students. Staff said Primo Transportation would continue current routes connecting Freestyle and Los Altos, with vehicles sized to carry up to 13 students. Staff said the route frequently runs at capacity.
Turf and track design services: Trustees approved hiring a landscape architect to provide design services for replacing synthetic turf at both district stadiums and for track resurfacing. Staff explained this contract is for design and Division of State Architects (DSA) "access only" review and submission; it is not the construction contract. The district plans to pay for the work from maintenance funds and aims to do the construction in summer 2026. Staff noted DSA review is required for school projects above certain thresholds and for access/structural review.
Translation services for special education: The board approved continuing contracted translation and interpretation services for IEP meetings and for translating psych reports and other student records. Terry (district staff) told trustees that translations include material protected by FERPA and sometimes HIPAA, and that human translators trained in special-education terminology are required to avoid privacy violations and to reliably translate technical language.
Each pulled item was moved by Trustee Catherine and seconded by Trustee Alex; staff recommended approval for all. Trustees requested the special-education contract matrix and additional context about overall service delivery.
