The City of Rosemount Council voted 3-0 Tuesday to receive the City of Rosemount Youth Commission annual report, presented by outgoing chair Molly Pitson.
"This year has been a tremendous year of growth for the youth commission," Pitson said, summarizing monthly activities that included tree plantings, tours of city facilities, community events and learning sessions with city staff. The report was accepted for the record with no additional council action.
Pitson, a Rosemount High School graduate and the commission’s outgoing chair, highlighted the commission’s year: a legacy tree planting in Winns Park; meetings with Rosemount investigators to learn about public safety roles; a splash pad celebration; participation in Leprechaun Days; Night to Unite outreach; a parliamentary-procedure lesson with City Clerk Erin Fassbender; a tour of the police department and public works facility with Public Works Director Nick Egger; engagement on a proposed RC steam facility; leadership training; a tour of 360 Communities with Lisa Lusk; recruitment and outreach work with Simone Hubbard; and a fire station tour with Captain Kip Springer.
Pitson told council the commission’s recruitment efforts have resulted in 18 new members joining next year and nine graduating seniors leaving the commission. She thanked staff members Sarah Saunders and others who supported the commission. After the presentation, Mayor (presiding) moved to receive the report; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll call vote that recorded councilmembers Klimpel, Weisensel and Reske as voting aye.
Acceptance of the report places it on the council record; the action does not require further ordinance or budget action and does not itself change any city policy. The council noted appreciation for the student commissioners and encouraged future participation.
