Selma — During the city’s oral communications period June 17, a transit official updated the council on local transit amenities and a major maintenance facility planned for the region.
Moses Stites, identified in the meeting as general manager of the “Fresno County World Transit Agency,” told the council his agency secured permission to place a bus bench at the Selma Walmart to help seniors and others who wait outside the store. He also said the agency will dedicate a plaque honoring local resident Terry Serrano at a bus shelter.
Stites described the new maintenance facility as a roughly $20,000,000 project and said Measure C is investing about $10,000,000 toward its construction. “It’s a $20,000,000 facility,” he said, adding that the site includes state-of-the-art electric-charging capability and solar charging technology and that openings and soft tours are expected in late July or August pending a final utility connection.
Council and staff thanked the transit manager for service to seniors and veterans and for regional partnerships. Council members also asked to be notified about a proposed soft opening and tour of the maintenance and charging facility.
The remarks were informational; no formal action was taken by the council on the transit report.
