The board opened nominations for chair. Laura Lindsey and Jeff Jones each received nominations and seconds. After brief discussion in which several commissioners addressed experience and interpersonal divisions on the panel, the board voted first on Lindsey’s nomination and then on Jones’s. The clerk recorded two votes in favor of Lindsey and three opposed; Jones then received three affirmative votes and two opposed and was declared the new chair.
During discussion, one nominator said the board was “divided as worst as I’ve ever seen,” and that selecting Jones — who is the newest commissioner — could help reduce division because he “doesn’t know this side and he doesn’t know that side.” Several commissioners stressed that Lindsey had prior elected experience and that they valued continuity; others said they supported Jones to reset relations.
The board recessed briefly to allow reorganization and then resumed business under Chair Jeff Jones.
