City staff updates: Juneteenth closure, Main Street lighting order, website/app planning and paving work

City staff provided several operational updates at Monday’s Troy City Council meeting, including a municipal closure for Juneteenth, the status of new Main Street light poles, progress on a website and mobile app project, and continued paving work.

Staff said city facilities will be closed Thursday observing Juneteenth; trash and recycling will remain on the published schedule and facilities will reopen Friday. Regarding Main Street lighting, staff reported the poles have been ordered from Miami Valley Lighting and the city is awaiting an estimated arrival date so installation can be scheduled.

Council and staff discussed communication improvements. Staff said they are evaluating vendors for a new city website and app and have been gathering best practices from other communities. Funding for a website/app implementation was discussed previously during budget deliberations; staff said funding is expected to be included in the 2026 budget while this year will be used for planning. Staff also mentioned plans to integrate comprehensive community calendaring and, later, interactive kiosks tied to streetscape work.

On paving, council members asked residents to drive carefully through areas with ongoing resurfacing work and to pass along positive feedback to the contractors where appropriate.
