Meals on Wheels reports funding concerns, new CEO outlines service metrics

Turman identified Brian Windgott as the new development director and Pam Goodwin as senior services director.
Turman said a significant portion of hot-meal funding comes from the Central Alabama Aging Consortium and cautioned that if that funding is cut the agency could reduce the number of hot meals it provides. He also said the RSVP senior-volunteer program, an AmeriCorps program that Meals on Wheels sponsors, is under scrutiny and that losing it could cost the organization four positions that the program currently funds. "If we lose them, we will lose 4 of our employees because it's funded through that program," Turman said.
He told the council that 69% of the organization's budget is covered by private donations and event fundraising, and he invited councilors to a Chamber of Commerce "60 Minute Coffee" the organization will host on Aug. 19. Councilors thanked the presenters; no funding requests or votes occurred in the work session.
