Parks staff reported that construction of the sport courts at Bushmaster Park began May 7, a day after the city council approved the construction contract on May 6. Work is currently focused on grading and site preparation, staff said.
Project staff said they have been importing fill dirt, removing demolition debris and beginning to build the court pads per construction drawings. Some of the imported dirt came from the city’s West Street and Cedar Avenue project (the “wedge”) rather than the landfill, staff said. The team also identified and removed a hazard tree on the site.
The city posted a project page with an aerial layout, Spanish translations, contact information and a weekly photo feed; construction notices and a QR code are on banners at the site. Staff said construction is progressing and that the project is expected to be substantially complete by November, although landscaping and final items could extend beyond that date.
Staff stressed the entire site is fenced during construction and encouraged residents to check the project web page for weekly updates. The construction contract was procured through an invitation for bids, not a JOC contract.
