Great Neck board recognizes student achievements, approves tenure for district educators

The Great Neck Union Free School District Board of Education honored student achievements and recognized educators recommended for tenure during its June 17 meeting.
A town councilwoman presented proclamations to members of the Great Neck girls golf team for recent county, Long Island and state finishes; the board and administrators congratulated the players and coach for sustained success.
North Middle School student Brian Lew was recognized for a national run at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Mr. Nelson, North Middle School principal, said Lew advanced to round 16 at nationals and finished tied for fourth place. The board also announced a donation from Lew’s family to the district to help future students cover expenses associated with regional and national spelling competitions; the transcript did not specify the donation amount.
Superintendent Dr. Bossert and building principals then introduced and thanked dozens of educators recommended for tenure across the district. Tenure presentations included short biographies and remarks highlighting classroom practice, leadership in building-level committees and contributions to student social-emotional learning.
Among the educators recognized were Ian Baker kindergarten teacher Christine Isha (named in remarks as Christine Isha), JFK honorees including Matt Ferrara, Christina Caruso, Jesus Modesto and Dr. Kelly Hone, Lakeville’s tenure class (Dr. Ashley Andrews, Grace Chai, Laura Press and Marissa Ruffus), Saddle Rock’s Emily Roach and Connor Riley, and Parkville principal Michelle Bell, who was recognized for building leadership and district involvement. Presenters noted some tenured staff will shift assignments next year based on enrollment and district needs; tenure was described as effective upon their return in September.
Board members and administrators praised the students and staff for their service and contributions to the district and community. A number of parent volunteers, PTA and UPTC leaders were also acknowledged for yearlong service.
