Tooele adopts city-specific records retention schedule, will submit to Utah State Archives

Tooele City Council on June 18 adopted an ordinance establishing Tooele City’s own records-retention schedule.
City recorder Michelle Pitt told the council she has worked on the schedule for some time and that the local schedule is organized by department to make it easier for staff to find retention periods for particular records. Pitt said the state’s retention schedule remains the baseline but that the city’s own schedule will simplify local records management. The city will submit the adopted schedule to the Utah State Archives for review and approval before it becomes final.
Councilmembers noted the extent of municipal records and thanked the recorder for the work; the council adopted Ordinance 2025-19 on a unanimous vote.
