The Springfield School Committee on June 19 voted to ratify a successor memorandum of agreement with the Springfield Education Association (SEA), concluding negotiations between the district and the teachers’ union.
Superintendent Dr. Dennal and district negotiators thanked members of the bargaining team, including Sean Sweeney and Pat Roach, for their work. Committee members praised the collaborative process, saying bargaining required many hours and compromise by both sides.
The ratification motion, made by member Collins and seconded by Attorney Murphy, passed on a roll call. The clerk recorded: Mister Gonzales — abstain; Attorney Murphy — yes; Mister Collins — yes; Miss Gresham — absent; Miss Hurst — abstain; Miss Monroe Naylor — yes; Mayor Sarno — yes. Committee members characterized the agreement as fair to both educators and the district and said it preserves labor peace.
The vote ratifies the successor contract but the meeting packet did not include full contract language in the public discussion; committee members thanked the bargaining teams and said the agreement will be implemented per contract terms.
