The Historic Preservation Board on June 17 continued an application for exterior modifications at 7305 Collins Avenue — including a new shade structure, outdoor bar counter and mural — to the July 8 meeting after staff requested the continuance on the applicant’s behalf.
Board members and public commenters asked staff to confirm whether the fire department had reviewed the proposed shade structure and to provide information about traffic impacts related to expanded walk‑up service. A board member said he wanted fire department approval “before we vote on it.” Debbie Tuckett, city preservation staff, said the project requires a building permit and that the fire department’s approval is required for legalization of the structure; she said she would report back on the review status.
Ross Kelson, a resident of the adjacent building, asked the board to examine whether increased walk‑up services at the cafe would worsen congestion at building ingress and egress and described existing traffic and queuing problems near the site. Staff and the board agreed to note the concerns and requested the applicant and city reviewers provide fire‑safety and any traffic‑impact information prior to the July hearing.
The application will return for formal consideration when the full board is present.
