Board continues 1020 Pennsylvania applications after MDPL opposes removing square‑footage limit
Summary

The Historic Preservation Board continued two companion applications for 1020 Pennsylvania Avenue on June 17 to the July 8 meeting: an after‑the‑fact demolition filing and a certificate of appropriateness for a proposed multifamily residence and related waivers.
Roger Golblad, speaking for MDPL, said the preservation group “opposes the request to delete the condition limiting the square footage of any new development on this site,” warning that removing such a condition would set a problematic precedent for older Art Deco buildings. Staff requested the continuance on behalf of the applicant to allow the full board to consider the proposals.
The board accepted the continuation by voice vote and scheduled both applications for the July 8 agenda. No formal changes to prior orders were granted at the June 17 hearing and no conditions were modified; the applicant will return when five affirmative votes can be recorded.
