The Murfreesboro Planning Commission on June 18 approved initial and final design and site‑plan review for a 24,301‑square‑foot AutoZone tenant build‑out at Jackson Heights Plaza, 810 NW Broad Street.
Staff said the application proposes no new utility or stormwater infrastructure and no façade changes to the existing shopping center; it includes a new painted‑brick dumpster enclosure and an elevated sidewalk and striped/bollarded area for routine battery testing and minor services. “The applicant is seeking an initial and final design review for the AutoZone store within Jackson Heights Plaza,” Planning staff member Mr. Donovan said during the presentation.
Commissioners and staff emphasized safe pedestrian circulation between the battery‑testing area and the shopping center and confirmed truck turning templates and a BZA condition limiting large‑truck access off Jones Boulevard. Staff noted one outstanding item: elevations showing the dumpster material match to the existing facade. Mr. Donovan said the applicant indicated the dumpster enclosure will use painted brick to match the plaza.
A motion to approve the site plan passed on a voice vote. Planning Commissioners who recorded “aye” during roll call included Mr. Carroll, Mr. Harris, Mr. Prince, Mr. Roy and Chair Jones. The motion was otherwise recorded as approved by the commission.
The approval allows the tenant build‑out to proceed with the requirement that staff receive the matching dumpster elevation drawings and that the BZA special‑use permit conditions (restricting on‑site repairs to the designated area) be honored. Staff will verify the final elevations before issuing permits.
