Organizers seeking to hold events in Franklin Square — including a Luau cookout and a Franklin Square Barbecue sponsored by a local bakery proprietor — remain in the permitting process after failing to supply complete paperwork in time for an earlier date, city staff told the Common Council Wednesday.
Police representatives said department staff and the city clerk met with event organizers to review public-safety plans and permit requirements. The police department said it had no substantive objections after reviewing the applicants’ plans but that organizers had not yet resubmitted the required paperwork and liquor-license materials; until they do, the item will remain in committee.
The council was told two events had initially sought the same date and requested the Franklin Square Alley as the location. One organizer canceled an initial date when permits and liquor licenses were not ready. City staff said they were willing to call a special meeting if necessary once completed applications are submitted, and they encouraged applicants to work with the city clerk to finalize permits.
Council members said the plan discussed with police and clerk appeared solid when reviewed, but that the council cannot approve until applications are formally resubmitted and processed by the clerk’s office and police department.
