Port Richey City Council approved the purchase of 200 padded chairs at $25 each for use in council chambers and city events.
Councilman David Mueller told the council he had located “$25 chairs, really nice, fat, cushiony church chairs” and said the lot included 200 units; he noted the total—$5,000—was within the city manager’s purchase authority. Mueller moved the purchase and a councilmember seconded; the council approved the purchase on voice vote.
Council members discussed possible surplus uses for existing seating and suggested options such as auctioning or donating old chairs to community groups. City staff said they would coordinate procurement and disposition of replaced seating.
The purchase was presented during the council comment portion of the meeting and acted on before longer planning discussions later in the session.
