Kane County Development Committee on May 20 approved two resolutions to amend subrecipient agreements for emergency rental assistance funds originally awarded from federal COVID-era allocations.
Staff told the committee that Lazarus House and the Community Crisis Center in Elgin are on track to spend their original allocations and staff are meeting with both organizations to determine whether they can use additional funds. The resolutions before the committee amend their subrecipient agreements; the dollar amounts were left blank in the resolutions as placeholders until staff confirms the amounts to reallocate from subrecipients who are not using their full allocations.
Committee member Linder moved to approve the Lazarus House amendment; Garcia seconded. The roll call recorded yes votes from Doherty, Garcia, Iqbal, Bender, Roth and Williams. The committee then moved and approved the Community Crisis Center amendment by similar motion and roll call.
Staff said the overall emergency rental assistance program is winding down and that the county is finishing projects funded by the grant. Staff also noted the county is using some of the funds for administration and for utility assistance and housing counseling via subrecipients. Given the grant deadline, staff framed the amendments as placeholders so the funds can move quickly if additional allocation is needed by approved subrecipients.
