Kane County committee approves township motor-fuel-tax spending for salt and Merhead Road work

Kane County Transportation Committee Chair Verne Tepe said the committee approved several resolutions on June 17 authorizing township use of motor fuel tax funds for winter ice-control salt and for engineering and construction work on Merhead Road in Plato Township.
The committee approved a $75,000 motor fuel tax expenditure for ice-control rock salt for Sugar Grove Township. Rickert, a county staff presenter, described the item as a township motor-fuel-tax appropriation and said “there’s no county funds involved.”
The committee also approved a $25,932 appropriation for phase‑3 engineering services with Hampton, Lenzini & Renwick Inc. of Elgin, Illinois, and a $440,763 construction contract with Rausch Infrastructure LLC of Des Plaines for the Merhead Road bridge project over the Canadian National Railroad in Plato Township. Rickert said both items use township motor fuel tax funds and that staff recommended approval.
Each resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by roll call. Committee members asked no substantive policy changes during the votes; staff repeatedly noted these were township-funded expenditures and that county funds were not being used.
The approvals do not change countywide motor fuel tax policy; they authorize specific township expenditures and contracts for the listed projects.
