Kane County committee approves minor adjustment to allow 30-by-40 storage building at The Landings Airport

Kane County Development Committee on May 20 approved a minor adjustment to the special-use zoning for The Landings Airport to allow construction of a 30-by-40-foot storage building on one parcel of the airfield.

The committee voted to approve the adjustment after a presentation by Mark Van Kerkhoff of the Development Department, who said the airport’s original special-use file lacked a detailed site plan and staff recommended documenting the existing build-out before permitting the new structure. “They would like to build an additional storage building, located on 1 of the parcels that makes up the . . . airport,” Van Kerkhoff said.

The committee record shows that notice of the minor-adjustment request was sent to adjoining neighbors and to jurisdictional entities; Van Kerkhoff told the committee no objections had been received. He presented aerials and a rendering of the proposed structure and said all original conditions and stipulations of the special use would remain in effect.

Linder moved to approve the minor adjustment; Garcia seconded. The roll call recorded affirmative votes from Jordy, Iqbal, Linder, Roth and Williams. The motion carried and the committee approved the minor adjustment.

The action is an administrative approval under the county’s zoning special-use framework and staffs noted it documents the existing site plan for an early special use that lacked a formal site plan in the record. The committee did not alter the original conditions attached to the airport special-use approval.

Committee chair Rick Williams closed the item and moved to the next agenda reports.
