McLennan County staff presented the 2025 renewal for property coverage through the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) Risk Management Pool and asked the court to consider the $623,864 invoice for property coverage renewal.
Staff noted the policy premium increased roughly 20% from the prior year and that total covered value had risen about 7.5–8%. County staff said TAC underwriting reported an average pool increase of 15–20% across members; the renewal amount presented to the court was $623,864, up from about $520,000 the previous year.
Commissioners discussed options to manage premium costs, including raising the property deductible (currently $25,000). Commissioner Jones requested staff ask TAC to model premiums at higher deductible levels (for example $50,000, $75,000 or $100,000) to see whether a deductible increase would materially reduce the premium. The court voted to defer final action pending those deductible scenarios and additional information from TAC.
