"It's an organization that was founded in 1909," Greg Lucey said from the stage, noting the group’s long history of alumni giving. He told the audience the organization has awarded “almost $2,500,000” in scholarships through the years and that the group currently has 24 members who are graduates of Baldwin (Malden) High School classes dating from 1960 to 2010.
The awards were presented during the graduation program; recipients were called forward as Mr. Lucey read names. The alumnus announced the full list of 32 recipients, which included Haley Tran and a broad roster of students from the graduating class. The announced total of $160,000 equals 32 scholarships at $5,000 apiece.
The scholarships were presented as part of the ceremony’s sequence of awards and remarks. Greg Lucey and other alumni representatives acknowledged the role of past graduates in supporting current Malden students through the scholarship fund.
