Commission releases RFP for Monongalia County Center solar project to pursue tax credits and lower energy costs

The Monongalia County Commission voted on June 18 to release Request for Proposals (RFP) 2025MCC-002 for a solar project at the Monongalia County Center.
Commissioners said the RFP aims to evaluate proposals that could reduce energy costs, provide redundancy for the county building, and move the county toward a lower net energy footprint. One commissioner noted the county hopes to “take advantage of some... tax credits that are out there” and therefore needed to put the project on the “front burner” to secure incentives before they expire.
The RFP release was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners said if the project is successful at the county center, the county might consider similar solar installations at other facilities.
No contract was awarded at the meeting; the action authorized staff to solicit proposals and return with evaluations and recommendations for future board consideration.
