The Monongalia County Commission voted June 18 to release request for proposals RFP 2025MCC-002 for a solar project at the Monongalia County Center.
Commissioners said the RFP aims to create solar redundancy at the County Center, reduce energy costs and position the county to claim tax credits currently available for low-carbon investments. The commission president said staff needs to move quickly to solicit and evaluate proposals before available tax incentives change.
The motion to release the RFP passed by voice vote. Commissioners discussed that if the County Center project proves successful, similar installations could be considered for other county facilities.
Commissioner Sean said the county has been discussing the project for some time and emphasized both operational cost savings and long-term goals to reduce the building’s footprint. The commission did not commit county capital at the June 18 meeting; it authorized the procurement step of releasing the RFP to solicit bids and proposals.
Procurement staff and the administrator will proceed with the RFP timeline, evaluate proposals as received and report back to the commission with recommended vendors and contract terms.
