Emergency Management staff updated the Public Safety Committee on recent public events and communications work, including support for a Community Foundation 5K that drew more than 1,000 runners and a countywide coverage test of radio communications.
"One thing that we helped support was the Community Foundation 5 k. They had about they had over a thousand runners," said Doug, Emergency Management staff. He said public-safety personnel supported the run and the celebration route.
On radio and communications, EMA staff said mobile installations were largely complete and the office conducted a countywide "CAP" coverage test (referred to in the transcript as a CAT p test) that breaks the county into grids to check signal coverage. "Last I think it was 2 weeks ago, we did what they call a CAT p test ... we have not got our information back from that yet, but it should come back week or 2 is what I've been told," Doug said.
EMA staff also briefed the committee on preparations for the Moon Pie Festival, noting heat concerns and first-responder coverage for runners and festival attendees. "It's supposed to be, heat index maybe in triple digits," he said, and EMS will be present for runners and vendors.
The committee asked no new action on these items; the report was included in the packet and approved along with other routine reports during the meeting.
