Council approves MOU to join Milwaukee County Complete Communities transportation planning project

Oak Creek approved a memorandum of understanding and a $5,000 municipal contribution to participate in the Milwaukee County Complete Communities Transportation Planning Project, which provides a consultant to develop a municipality safety action plan and identify corridor safety improvements.
The Common Council adopted a resolution authorizing the City of Oak Creek to join Milwaukee County’s Complete Communities Transportation Planning Project and to enter a memorandum of understanding on June 17, 2025.
Matt Sullivan, assistant city administrator and city engineer, explained the program is part of the county’s Vision Zero and Complete Communities work that analyzes corridors, intersections and pedestrian safety issues across the county. Sullivan said participation includes a $5,000 municipal commitment and provides the city with a consultant to draft a Municipal Safety Action Plan identifying priority safety projects; staff said the Drexel Avenue crossing study already budgeted in the 2025 CIP satisfies the city’s contribution.
Council voted to adopt the MOU and resolution after staff said the work will identify several high‑accident locations. The MOU also gives the city access to county consultants and a structured process to develop short‑ and medium‑term safety improvements and to pursue funding for those projects.
