The La Porte City Urban Enterprise Association voted June 18 to approve its minutes, accept the claims docket including a grant payment to Boiler Holdings for storefront windows and a reimbursement to the Kiwanis Club, and to accept the association's financial statements.
The approvals occurred early in the meeting after the board chair asked for public comment and, hearing none, moved to minutes and then to the claims docket. Staff noted Boiler Holdings was receiving “their first grant payment for the windows that they had installed at the front of the building,” and that the Kiwanis Club would be paid for a community enhancement grant for the Fourth of July parade. A motion to approve the claim docket passed by voice vote; the board then approved the financial statements by voice vote.
The board discussed documentation for the Boiler Holdings payment. Mary Anne (staff member) said a building permit had been pulled and that building inspector Dan Drake had done the inspection and determined the work met code. Board members noted the contractor had not provided proof of payment from the business to the contractor; staff said only the invoice had been submitted. The board proceeded with the payment after confirming inspection documentation was on file.
Also noted during the financial update: previously encumbered items such as the Roe King payment and a special grant to the YMCA had been paid out, and $1,500 set aside for a downtown art project (a sculpture at Plaza 618) will be paid next year. Board members said most encumbered items are beginning to clear, which matched the association's intent.
The meeting closed routine business later in the agenda after votes on separate grant applications and other items.
