FALL RIVER, Mass. — The Fall River City Traffic Board on June 18 approved several on‑street handicap parking requests after reviewing applicant placards, vehicle registration and landlord letters; the board also approved rescinding a list of handicap spaces no longer in use.
Approved requests included applications for 23 McGowan Street, 188 Kilburn Street, 55 Almy Street (approval pending confirmation of updated registration/license), 805 Second Street (approval conditioned on submission of a current vehicle registration), and 211 Wade Street (a caregiver/child application). Board members repeatedly noted that approved on‑street handicap spaces are not exclusive to the applicant; any vehicle displaying a valid placard may use the space.
The board directed that signs and poles for newly approved spaces typically will be installed in about 12 weeks, pending the field measurements noted by staff.
The traffic department also recommended rescinding a series of handicap spots that are no longer used because former users moved away, stopped driving, or passed away. The rescinded locations listed in the packet and announced at the meeting were: Pittman Street (10312022), Milk Street (282021), Bonby Street (1282021), Baird Street (7242014), Summerfield Street (4142017), Fountain Street (3232021), Cambridge Street (872019), and Cottage Street (5162008). The board moved and seconded the rescission; the chair announced the motion passed.
Several approvals were conditional on confirmation of current registration or license information; staff asked applicants to bring updated documents to the city offices within days so the administrative file could be completed.
