Sun City West has started demolition on a full remodel of the Silvercraft clubhouse, and community capital improvements staff said they are aiming for substantial completion in August.
The project is intended to replace fixtures and finishes installed decades ago: “I believe from, the first half of it, or almost half, was done in the 70s. And then the addition in the back was done in the 80s,” said Dave Johnson, Sun City West capital improvements project manager. Johnson said crews are removing much of the existing interior and will install a new floor, paint, ceiling and refaced cabinets.
“We're coming in here, we basically are kind of starting from scratch, taking most of the stuff out, and we're kind of redoing it,” Johnson said. He described temporary storage on site — including two 40-yard containers — while crews complete demolition and renovations. Johnson said the cabinet layout will largely return to its prior configuration but that some back-area cabinets will change position; existing cabinets will be refaced with new laminate.
Steven, host of the video walkthrough, said club members helped clear the room so work could begin: “They started probably a month early and it took a solid week to just get everything out so that we could start demolition this week.” Johnson confirmed staff photographed the interior thoroughly to restore the layout: “We took hundreds of pictures and we've got notes. We know where everything was.”
The remodel is one of several capital projects Sun City West staff discussed in the same video. Johnson said a discovery during demolition — a mannequin torso above a ceiling grid — became an off‑site mascot and was shared on the community’s social media. He also said the Lizard Acres Pub remodel was delayed by permitting and is expected to be permitted in July or August, and that Palm Ridge will receive floor refinishing, sealing and restriping starting around July 1. Staff noted tile roof replacements for pro shops and equipment upgrades at the bowling alley and sports pavilion are planned in the coming fiscal year.
Johnson described the community’s approach to these projects as driven by reserve funding and a rolling reserve study: “We budget for these things, to make sure that we keep everything looking good and fresh and up to date.” He also said staff are already planning for fiscal year 26/27 priorities.
No formal vote or external regulatory decision affecting the Silvercraft work was announced in the video. The timeline Johnson gave for finishing the Silvercraft remodel was described as “a little bit soft,” and he said the August target represents a near-term goal rather than a firm guaranteed completion date.
