Resident urges return of Niagara Street to one‑way; traffic board to notify abutters and revisit

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Matthew Texaro told the Fall River City Traffic Board on June 18 that Niagara Street should be reverted to a one‑way because drivers unfamiliar with the current configuration drive the wrong way and create a safety hazard.
Texaro said Niagara Street was one way until about 2018–2019, when a realty office (formerly Keller Williams, now operating under a different name) prompted the city to return part of the street to two‑way traffic. He told the board motorists turning from Plymouth Avenue do not realize the two‑way section ends until several blocks later, and he called the situation “an accident waiting to happen.”
Stephanie McArthur told the board she had reduced the posted speed limit at the location from 30 mph back to 25 mph. The board determined more abutters and residents should be notified and invited to the discussion; John LaPointe moved to table the item to the next meeting and Charlie seconded the motion. Staff will send letters to more abutters and place the item on the next agenda so neighbors can provide input.
