Staff: Deltona must revise rules after commission rejects dispensary ban; board asks staff to pursue sign, parking and mural code updates

Staff told the Planning and Zoning Board on June 18 that the City Commission on June 16 denied a proposed local prohibition on medical marijuana dispensaries and that Deltona’s land‑use code must be updated to comply with Florida statute. "On June 16, the City Commission denied the prohibition of medical marijuana dispensaries," a staff member said; staff added they will work with the city attorney to update the regulations and return to the board.
Separately, board members asked staff to pursue several code rewrites. After discussion of architectural standards and murals earlier in the meeting, a board motion (made and seconded at the meeting) asked staff to prepare recommendations for a sign‑code rewrite that would consider murals and related sign‑standards, parking code revisions (including bicycle parking/access and internal pedestrian connectivity), and related landscape/species guidance. The motion passed on a board roll call and staff confirmed they will bring those topics to the City Commission for consideration.
Staff also reminded the board of a special Planning and Zoning Board meeting scheduled for June 23 at 4:30 p.m.; board members asked that the parking and bicycle‑parking considerations be included in future code review work by staff.
