Shelton council approves contract extension with Mason Conservation District for stormwater public outreach

The Shelton City Council on Tuesday approved Resolution 1387-0525, authorizing a strategy, schedule and budget with Mason Conservation District to carry out public education and outreach required under the Phase II municipal stormwater permit.

Mary read the resolution aloud: "Resolution number 1387-0525, a resolution of the council of the city of Shawan, Washington approving a strategy schedule and budget with Basin Conservation District for Western Washington phase 2 municipal stormwater permit, public education, and outreach efforts, and authorizing the city manager to sign the letter of acknowledge checks." The council then moved and seconded the resolution; the mayor called for the vote and said, "Aye." The motion carried.

Engineering technician Kenny Goldberg summarized the item to the council as an extension of an existing agreement. He said the Mason Conservation District performs the Phase II public education work the city lacks capacity to provide and that the proposed schedule covers 23 months through the next state capacity-grant cycle.

Goldberg explained the program structure: the city receives recurring, two-year capacity grants from the state, and the conservation district has the technical experience to deliver public outreach and related activities on the city’s behalf. The agreement authorizes city staff to execute the schedule and budget and continue collaborating with the conservation district.

The council approved the resolution by voice vote; no public commenters spoke on the item. The resolution grants the city manager authority to sign the related documents as described in the resolution text.
