HRC to staff tables at Holt Park and Juneteenth events; limited Chromebooks available through ARPA program

Baltimore County Human Relations Commission staff outlined outreach plans and a limited device distribution program ahead of summer community events.

Staff said the commission will staff tables at a Holt Park drag brunch bingo event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and at a Juneteenth celebration on June 19 at Benjamin Banneker Park from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The commission also plans a presence at Pride events; staff said registration is required for the Pride celebration but not for Juneteenth. Flyers for the events were distributed to commissioners by staff for local promotion.

The commission reported it will distribute leftover Chromebooks from a prior-year allocation to eligible residents. Staff said the Chromebooks come from ARPA funds and that supply is limited (staff estimated about 50 devices). Eligibility requires applicants to meet income-related criteria such as receipt of SNAP or VA benefits or qualifying educational aid; recipients must register and meet program guidelines to receive a device. Staff said they will register attendees for the Chromebook distribution and that the commission will operate a limited giveaway at the events.

Commissioners discussed outreach to local farmers markets and community groups to distribute flyers and reach residents who use SNAP or senior food benefits. Staff and commissioners noted safety considerations for Pride events and said registration practices reflect those concerns. No formal policy changes or budget votes were taken at the meeting.
