Residents press for meetings after developer files petition for New Haven Drive site

"I put the petition out April 30. I came to the developer's meeting on April 24. Okay? Today is June 17. Haven't heard anything about a meeting," Arbenz said during the board's open forum.
The petition was received by the village last week and is under staff review, Village staff member Brian Simmons told the board. "When that gets to a point where it's able to be scheduled for a public hearing, the notices would go out for that, but that likely will be in the month of July that that hearing would take place. But that date has not been finalized as of today," Simmons said. He added that public notice must be provided "within 30 to 15 days in advance of the public" hearing.
Attorney Euler summarized the village's process for handling development petitions and cautioned against private meetings between the board and one side of a pending application. "The process that this board engages in when we have a development petition regarding property in the village has to respect both sides. So private meetings, significant numbers of private meetings by the board with either homeowners or with the developer would be inappropriate, would be unlawful," Euler said.
Simmons also said the village has asked the developer to provide additional signage and that notices would appear on the village marquee, the Cary News Weekly, the village Facebook page and the village website. He said signs could be added at homeowners' requests.
