Lacey museum staff updated the commission on multiple ongoing projects including plans to reprint the local history volume Waterwoods and Prairies, exhibit buildout, and new store merchandise tied to the forthcoming museum space.
Staff said Thurston County executed a memorandum of understanding allowing the city to take over printing of Waterwoods and Prairies. Staff described the book as currently out of print and noted reprinting requires photo-rights clearance for hundreds of images and that some captions or images may be adjusted if permissions or costs differ.
On the exhibit side, staff reported installation of reader rails and upcoming installation of photo murals and window film on the museum exterior, and showed samples of proposed store merchandise (postcards, shirts and other items featuring the museum’s branding and mascot, Basil the Badger). The Russell House HVAC replacement was completed and staff said indoor climate control is now stable for exhibits and visitors.
Staff also described outreach and collections activity: a recent museum conference visit, processing of a local family research request, and continuing coordination with the Lacey Historical Society on programming and memorials. Staff asked the commission to approve acquisition and accept help from community partners on museum programming projects (previously approved in the meeting).
