Auburn council approves water-plant and recreation contracts, delays downtown parking-deck decisions

Auburn City Council on June 17 approved several contracts for water-system maintenance, public-safety support at sporting events and recreation facility upgrades, and it postponed decisions on two downtown parking-deck items to a July 8 work session.

Mayor Ron Anders reported that the council approved a contract with Alfa Laval for reconditioning a belt press at the H.C. Morgan Water Treatment Plant and approved the city’s annual contract with the Auburn Game Day Law Enforcement Corporation, which arranges supplemental law enforcement from area public-safety agencies for Auburn University sporting events.

The council also approved a contract with Floyd Service Company to install indoor lights at the Yarborough Tennis Center and approved a contract with Trane U.S. for the Lake Wilmore Park pool dehumidification unit. Earlier in the meeting the council postponed two items related to the downtown parking deck — a revenue-control system (hardware and software) and a management contract — and scheduled a work session to reconsider those items on July 8.

Why it matters: the water-plant reconditioning supports wastewater or solids-handling operations at a municipal treatment facility; the law-enforcement contract supports public safety on university game days; the recreation and pool contracts affect city facilities used by residents.
