City of Auburn communications department introduces summer intern

Burke told hosts she has lived in Auburn most of her life and described her education and early career path. "I've lived in Auburn my whole life. I was born in Tacoma," Burke said on the podcast, and she said she graduated in 2024 from Western Washington University and plans to enroll in Washington State University’s online master's program in strategic communications.
The hosts outlined what the internship will cover and what Burke hopes to do this summer. Glover said the communications team is small and that interns typically get hands-on experience across multiple tasks. Burke said she hopes to “take on a big project” and described herself as a "quick learner," adding she prefers being put immediately to work rather than a slow orientation.
Burke also summarized prior experience relevant to the internship, including technical theater and production work at a local performing-arts venue. She described duties there as wearing “all hats,” including sound and lighting responsibilities. On the podcast she said that background helped prepare her for a small-team environment and varied communications work.
The podcast exchange did not establish a formal start or end date beyond noting the position is for the summer. Glover said the communications office will assign tasks across social, events support and production work; no formal job description or pay rate was disclosed on the episode.
The city plans additional podcast segments and other communications work through the summer in which staff said the intern will participate.
