Medford School Committee confirms new assistant superintendent and director for English learners

Dr. Kimberly Talbot and Chelsea McNiff, both recently confirmed by the Medford School Committee on June 3, 2025, were introduced at the committee’s June 18 meeting. Dr. Suzanne Gallucci, interim superintendent, described Talbot’s 30 years of experience and McNiff’s background working with newcomer English-learner students.
The committee heard brief statements from the two appointees. “I am so honored to join this team of dedicated educators to serve the students of Medford Public Schools,” Dr. Talbot told the committee. McNiff told the committee she was “so excited to join this team” and noted her experience leading professional development and working with level 1 newcomer students.
Gallucci said Talbot most recently served as executive director for academics and instruction for Salem Public Schools and holds an educational doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She described McNiff as previously serving as an EL department lead at Everett High School, fluent in Spanish and French, and holding a master’s degree in ESL from Boston University.
No formal votes occurred at the June 18 introduction beyond the earlier confirmations. The committee and administration said they look forward to the new administrators starting work with Medford Public Schools in the coming months.
